Technology Transfer

RGIS-North Central

Traditionally, GIS technology has been associated with high cost and complex software and hardware requirements. The new generation of GIS software requires no special hardware and has intuitive and friendly graphic users interfaces. While the software and hardware issues have been resolved in recent years, there is still a need for expert advice on the development and implementation of GIS technologies for a particular need. Making prospective users of GIS technology aware of pitfalls and the full potential of GIS technology is indicated by a sampling of some of the activities RGIS- North Central has been involved in:
  • Development of a GIS laboratory at Red River High School, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
  • Technical advice on development of the Grand Forks city and county E-9-1-1 addressing system.
  • Technical advice for the implementation of a GIS system for the University of North Dakota library system.
  • Participation in the RGIS-North East video-teleconference "A Practical Guide To Metadata Implementation for GIS/LIS Professionals".
  • Development of a campus-wide GIS support group.
  • Presentation at the 'State of Education in Grand Forks: Kindergarten through Ph.D."
