At the
University of North Dakota, the RGIS site is the Institute for Earth Systems Sciences.
RGIS is collecting and disseminating complex and changing regional climate and weather
information as it affects aquifers, soils, demographics, and land use in the region. RGIS
desires to enhance agricultural producers access to and use of "real-time" climatological data
to enhance the viability and sustainability of the regions agricultural industry.
One of the primary missions of the National Consortium for Rural Geospatial Innovations project is the adoption and diffusion of Geographic Information Systems technology into the public mainstream. This "Technology Transfer" model is the basis for the success of the RGIS program. RGIS-North Central's number one priority is to provide local, state, and the general public access to the power of GIS through technology transfer.
